http://www2.2wf.com/images/2011/Product_reviews/Riding_Gear/SHIFT_Silhouette_Jeans/upload1_small.jpgWriting about women’s jeans when you’re a guy is tough. I mean we look at riding jeans and think “will they protect me?” Women, as I’ve come to learn, look at a pair of riding jeans and think “do they make my butt look fat?”

OK so obviously not EVERY woman thinks that (even though I secretly think they do even if they won’t admit it).

In my case that was the SECOND thing my wife, and defacto tester of all things female oriented, asked me. The first thing was “why are they so long?”

http://www2.2wf.com/images/2011/Product_reviews/Riding_Gear/SHIFT_Silhouette_Jeans/upload3_small.jpgNow seeing as how my wife doesn’t ride her own motorcycle I can understand the first question – and seeing as how she is a girl I can even understand the second question. So let’s answer them.

Riding jeans are first and foremost about protection. With Kevlar or other abrasion resistant panels sewn into key places they offer better protection in case of a slide than regular denim will. Riding jeans are also cut longer in the leg than regular jeans to help keep them from riding up while seated on the bike.

Shift built the Silhouette Jeans for women out of stretch spandex 13oz denim for greater comfort and a more body-hugging fit. They also put the requisite Kevlar panels in the knee, hip, shin, and seat. Not just any Kevlar but a stretch Kevlar to once again fit and feel http://www2.2wf.com/images/2011/Product_reviews/Riding_Gear/SHIFT_Silhouette_Jeans/upload2_small.jpgbetter.

I personally liked the way they fit on my wife and the only thing she didn’t like was the extra length of the legs. Personally I didn’t find them to look all that long but what do I know – I’m just a guy.

I will say that the denim feels soft and, yes, a bit stretchy compared to men’s jeans standards. My wife did say that they were very comfortable to ride in as there was no bunching or pressure anywhere.

I’m a big fan of riding jeans and while I - as a guy who is one step above a Neanderthal on the fashion-sense scale - don’t care as much about looks as I probably should, I can tell you that the Shift Silhouette Women’s Riding Jeans look as good as a pair of riding jeans can.

And no they won’t make your butt look big - unless you have a big butt to begin with – in which case.........
