My name's Shamus, Richard Shamus; I’m a private detective. I work the big city where it’s been hot; very hot. So hot that, on the way to work this morning, I watched Mr. Fielders toupee combust when he walked out the front door of his barber shop. Yeah it was that kind of hot. It was even hot when it rained.I was sitting in my office, the small fan on my desk blowing the hot air around, wondering which horse to bet on during the races later today when she walked in; brown hair, green eyes, and legs that went all the way to the ground. I was mesmerized as she floated over to the cheap leather chair on the other side of my desk. “Oh Mr. Shamus” she said with a voice that would make canaries cry. “I so need your help”. “Well I don’t work for free toots no matter how nice your stems are” I said, trying not to show how dizzy I was about this dame. “Please Mr. Shamus I don’t have a lot of money but I need protection. I have a beautiful motorcycle that my father left me when he passed away and I’m afraid that all this sun and rain are going to destroy the bike. You just gotta help me!” Now I’m pretty hard-boiled but this dame and her great gams and big green eyes was making my heart go all fluttery so I knew I was in trouble – but I wasn’t going to let her know that; not yet anyway. “Now look here dollface, I get paid 500 clams a day for protection work; that’s my packing heat fee.”
Hmm…$114.99 wasn’t much to pay for quality protection but after a few minutes of thinking I had an answer. “Listen sweetheart, if you’re looking for something to protect this motorcycle from the weather I think I’ve got just the answer for you; a Dowco Guardian WeatherAll Plus cover”. “A Dowco Guardian WeatherAll Plus?” she asked, her beautiful green eyes opening wide. “Yeah, it’s made out of heavy-duty polyester with Color-Lok (that’s a trademarked name so don’t try to steal it) fabric treatment to resist fading from too much sun. Plus it’s got something called ClimaShield (that’s trademarked too) Plus fabric protection built right in. Add in heat sealed, double-taped seams and a vent system that allows moisture out but lets none in and you’ve got powerful protection”. “Wow! All that for only $114.99? What if something happens to it; is there any warranty?” she asked. “Of course there’s a warranty babe, a lifetime one. I wouldn’t recommend something to you that wasn’t going to do the job you know” I said, trying to sound gruff and like I wasn’t dying to sweep her into my arms. “I’ll order one and we’ll go see about protecting that sweet motorcycle of yours. I’ll call you as soon as it comes in”. “Oh Mr. Shamus, it’s so big” she said putting her hand to her forehead. “How will I ever be able to manage that all by myself?” Unfortunately, she was talking about the Dowco cover and not me. “Don’t worry darling, it doesn’t weigh much at all. Come on and we’ll put it on the motorcycle together.”
The motorcycle was covered and protected from sun damage, rain, and snow; not bad for 30 seconds worth of work. “See toots; nothing to it.” I said.
