OGIO’s Roller 7800 & Super Mini Tanker
OGIO Roller 7800
I’ve had the great pleasure to ride around some fabulous race tracks through the years. The one’s closest to me required very little planning other than scheduling the track day, loading up the truck and heading on out. Where the logistics get complicated real quick is when you have to board a plane and travel 3,000 miles to go racing. Assuming you’re not driving or riding the distance (if you are then you’re probably a proud card carrying member of the IBA); I’ll remove some variables from the mix like obtaining the plane tickets, hotel and rental car. Now the big question: “What the fack do I do with all my gear?” Well you could certainly use a plain old duffel bag to stuff a few thousand dollars worth of gear in but that’s so 90’s. Then again if you’re walking around in a Pearl Jam “Ten” t-shirt and feel socially alienated then maybe this is the best option for you. For everyone else however, OGIO has a better way of hauling all of your gear from point A to point B and it’s with their Roller 7800 series.
A full suit, helmet, gloves, boots and a back protector aren’t the lightest items to transport so the people at OGIO created the 7800 with a heavy duty chassis, durable reinforced bottom and is equipped with easy glide wheels. The telescoping pull handle (which is neatly stored in a zippered pouch) makes moving your gear and other assorted items you put in it a breeze. For those who want to build their muscles, the 7800 also has heavy duty shoulder straps with an adjustable closure. I opt for ease of use so I used the wheels more often than not which meant leaving the weight lifting routine for when I visit the gym.
Obviously all of that gear needs storage space so having enough room is paramount. The 7800 is broken down into two major areas: 1) a large main compartment and 2) a smaller side compartment. I’d say the split is probably 80%-20% in size with both having wide openings for easy access. The overall dimensions are 15"H x 17"W x 32"D which just so happens to produce a number of 7800 cu. in. Hmm, I wonder where OGIO got the name from?
I’ve been using this bag when flying or taking day trips and the easy grab end handles are great when you want to toss it in the back of a car/truck or pull it off the conveyor belt at an airport. I should also mention that the zippers have big pullers that are double stitched which ensures that you can open and close each compartment without a problem. One feature I’d like to see incorporated in a future design is having the zippers come together to create a single eyelet so a lock could be fastened. Not that anyone might want to steal your sweaty leathers but in case you temporarily want to store your phone, wallet or MP3 player within it this would give you peace of mind.
At just $84.99 the Roller 7800 is at an unbelievable price and will add a great piece of luggage to those that already have an extensive collection or the guy who uses one piece for everything (guilty as charged your honor). Get the Stealth version as seen here or add a splash of color with the Grangler color scheme. Check out OGIO’s site (http://www.ogio.com) for their full product lineup but get your Visa card ready because they have plenty of things that will make you say: “I GOTTA HAVE THAT!”
PROS
• Enormous value. • Ease of use. • Heavy duty construction.
CONS
• Too large to be classified as a “carry-on.” • Only two main compartments.
THE VERDICT
OGIO has produced a product that not only functions as it’s supposed to but also makes boring luggage fashionable.
